Covering low to intermediate tensile strength carbon steel for use in non–critical pressure vessel applications, ASME SA285 sets standards for plates used by fabricators in the production of weldable pressure vessels & boilers.

As the standard is specifically for low to intermediate tensile strength, the steel plates supplied under this standard should be used in low pressure storage tanks, boilers and vessels.
