Armour Plate Steel

The world is becoming an ever more dangerous place and the need for improved security is now of paramount importance.

The steel industry is not by any means excluded from technological developments in the security sector with armour plated steel becoming a global consumable for protection against explosions or ballistic projectiles.

Masteel UK Limited offer our own designation of armour steel plate which is available in two separate grades. Our material is of the highest quality and specification, and displays excellent high yield and tensile strength. The steel is produced under a direct quenching process which not only promotes good blast and ballistic protection but also good dimensional accuracy and surface flatness.

Our ballistic resistant material conforms to the following specifications:

  • MIL-DTL-12560(K)
  • DEF-STAN 95-24

Protection 400 Armor Steel Plate

Protection 400 is Masteel UK Limited’s designation for armor steel plate suitable for high protection against the pressures caused by blasts and explosions.

The material benefits from a combination of improved hardness and strength resulting in excellent ballistic properties and is developed exclusively for resistance to high explosives and ordnance. The steel goes through a direct quenching process which not only makes the steel very hard and very strong but also promotes excellent dimensional accuracy and good flatness. Note that the number 400 in the designation denotes the average Brinell Hardness value for this material.

Applications :

  • Military Vehicles & associative equipment
  • Security vehicles and cars
  • Walls, doors and window frames
  • Bank Counters and Bank Vaults

Protection 500 Armour Steel Plate

Protection 500 is an armour plate steel which is more suitable for protection against projectile armaments i.e. kinetic energy impact resistance to types of airborne ballistics.

Available as heavy plates and cut sheets, the material is weldable using traditional welding methods though heat treatment is not recommended. The plates can be plasma or laser cut and are delivered in accordance with EN 10 021. The number of the designation denotes the average Brinell Hardness value for this material.

Protection 500 is a quenched hardenable steel with excellent high yield and tensile properties making it an ideal choice in the following applications…
